Exploring Urban Transport in Pilsen: A Convenient and Growing System

Pilsen, a lively city in the Czech Republic, has a well-developed urban transport system that makes it easy for residents and students like me, who are here for an Erasmus program, to get around. Whether by metro, bus, or services like Bolt, there are many options for traveling quickly around the city.

Metro and Bus: An Efficient and Accessible Network

The metro and bus are the two main public transport options in Pilsen. The transport system is very well organized and covers the entire city. The buses run frequently, and it is easy to get from one place to another without long waiting times. The metro, while more limited compared to larger capitals, is still a reliable option for longer trips or to avoid traffic jams.

During my Erasmus stay, I am lucky enough to have access to all these services for only 40 euros for six months, which is a very affordable price compared to transport in other European cities. This offer gives me a lot of flexibility for my daily trips to university or just to explore the city.

Bolt: A Fast and Affordable Service

In addition to the metro and bus network, there is another popular transport option in Pilsen: Bolt. It is like Uber in France, but with one advantage: it is usually faster and cheaper. The cars often arrive quickly, and the prices are very competitive, making it a great option if you need a more direct and personalized ride.

It’s great to be able to rely on this service, especially when you're in a rush or prefer to avoid crowded public transport. However, unlike traditional taxis, Bolt provides a more modern and flexible experience.

Pedestrian Safety: An Issue to Consider

Despite the good coverage of public transport, one point that deserves attention is pedestrian safety. As a pedestrian, I sometimes feel vulnerable when crossing certain areas of the city. The sidewalks are not always well-maintained, and there are often obstacles like cars parked carelessly. Also, the respect for traffic rules by drivers is sometimes lacking, which makes walking in some areas more risky.

It would be important for local authorities to invest more in improving safety for pedestrians. This could include measures such as better-marked crossings, wider sidewalks, and solutions to prevent cars from parking improperly. As someone who walks daily, I believe it’s essential to provide a safer experience for those who choose to walk.
